This Wednesday, prestigious British barrister Michael Mansfield QC will address UCC students in an event organised by the UCC Law Society.

Michael Mansfield QC has been described by The Times Online as “probably the biggest household name at the criminal Bar” – a sure fire role model for students wondering about a career in criminal (or civil rights) law.

On Wednesday, October 26th, the Law Society at The University College Cork shall be addressed by Mr. Mansfield QC at 7.30pm in Boole 4. Books shall be available for purchase and to be signed on the night by this inspirational figure.

Michael Mansfield is a prestigious and prolific British barrister who became the Queens Counsel since 1989. He has represented defendants in criminal trials, appeals and inquiries in some of the most controversial cases the UK has seen. To name but a few, these include the case of Barry George, accussed with the murder of journalist Jill Dando, the victims of the on going Bloody Sunday inquiry and he has acted for Mohammed Al Fayed in his pursuit of the truth surrounding the death of Princess Diana in Paris in 1997.

Other notable cases include the Birmingham Six who were released nearly sixteen years after being wrongly convicted and the successful representation of Fatmir Limaj, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
